Linux foundation standardization source libraries urges

  • Kate Stewart is a Senior Director of Strategic Programs, responsible for the Open Compliance programs encompassing the SPDX, FOSSology, OpenChain, and other compliance-related projects. Kate was one of the founders of SPDX, and is currently the specification lead. Since joining The Linux Foundation, she has also launched Real-Time Linux and Zephyr Project.


    With almost 30 years of experience in the software industry, she has held a variety of roles and worked as a developer in Canada, Australia, and the US and for the last 20 years has managed software development teams in the US, Canada, UK, India, and China. She received her Master’s in computer science from the University of Waterloo and her Bachelor’s of computer science (co-op program) from the University of Manitoba.

  • Dr. Malini Bhandaru is an Intel Sr. Principal Engineer working as a Cloud Native Architect. She has been involved with Open Source for over a decade as a developer, lead, and user on projects such as Kubeflow, Kubernetes, EdgeX Foundry, OpenStack, and OpenDaylight. She has worked on technologies spanning the Cloud, IoT/Edge, Machine Learning, Big Data, and Monitoring and Management to deliver solutions for autonomous driving, health care, telco, and early online systems. Her Intel career began with designing Xeon server power and performance features. Over her multi-decade career she has worked at startups and large corporations such as VMware, Nuance/Microsoft, eDocs/Oracle and GTE Labs/Verizon. She served as an EdgeX Foundry Security Work Group co-chair, serves on the Kubeflow 1.4 release team and co-authored the first edition of the OpenStack Security Guide. Malini holds over 20 patents, is a frequent conference speaker, and has served on the program committees of Open Source Summit and ONES. She has a Ph.D. in Machine Learning from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA. Malini is a STEM coach, a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion proponent, and a child advocacy volunteer. She enjoys gardening, travel, and movies.
